Passing your driving test is just the beginning. Statistics show that new drivers are involved in around 30% of all accidents and young drivers are particularly liable to have accidents. This is why car insurance premiums for new drivers are as high as they are. There are some driving situations for which additional knowledge and experience is necessary to avoid problems and I can provide you with this. The course includes night driving, dual-carriageways, motorways, all-weather and country driving although I will try to cover some of this during your lessons.
An official course deals with these skills. Called ‘Pass Plus’, there are car insurance premium savings for those who complete it and there is no further test to take to qualify! But it has to be completed within a year of passing your test.
To persuade you that the course fees are a good investment, I know of a 17 year old who, without Pass Plus, was quoted £650 for her first premium for an ordinary small car. Following completion of Pass Plus, the quote reduced to £489, a saving of over £160. And the savings continue at subsequent renewals!
If, despite this, you would just like a lesson on motorways, I would be pleased to arrange a two hour lesson. It would include general tips on personal safety, what to do if you have a breakdown and will count towards Pass Plus if you do the rest of the course within the year.
