The Practical Test is designed to ensure you are safe and competent enough to drive on today's roads.
You will have to drive for about forty minutes in a variety of road conditions and show that you can perform ‘set’ manoeuvres. To pass, you must accumulate no more than 15 driving errors and none of these must have caused potential or actual danger to other road users. Any pattern of error, i.e. repeated driving faults may well result in not passing. You will also be marked one driving error if you are unable to answer one or both of the basic car maintenance questions you will be asked by the examiner before you start your driving test.
We will discuss your progress throughout your lessons and decide together when you are ready to take the test. You will usually do at least one mock test so that you know what it is like to drive under exam conditions.
You can book your Practical Test by phone and also check what the waiting time is for your test on the DSA website.
I normally use the Chichester Test Centre and by the time your test day arrives, I will have given you all the information and skills you will need to pass. It will then be all up to you to keep your nerves under control and convince the examiner that you have the basic skills and confidence to earn your full licence.
